BIT is important batctericide and antiseptic. It can restrain microbe (fungi, germ, algae etc.) grow in orginic medium, resolved any problom that caused by microbe growing in organic product,such as go moulding,zymolysis,go bad.So it is wide used in latex product,water-solubility resin ,(latex paint),crylic acid, polymer, photo fixative, pager, printing ink, eather and lubricating oil in developed country.
BIT can be used as antiseptics for top grade products, as pharmaceutical intermediate, or as laboratory agent. The BIT series microbiocide can be used in various polymer emulsions, water-based coatings, adhesives, cloth coated paper, oil emulsion preparations, petroleum exploitation, industrial water treatment systems, etc..
Applications: Household. Use levels: 0.05-0.15%. Regulatory status: Registered by the U.S. EPA to preserve home cleaning products--floor cleaners; floor waxes and polishes; surface cleaners; window cleaners; dish detergents. Laundry additives--liquid laundry detergents; fabric softeners; stain removers. Comments: Proxel GXL antimicrobial, based on the active ingredient 1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-one, is a broad spectrum biocide.
Isothiazoline derivatives, belong to a class of cyclic sulfur organo products containing sulfur atom (S) and often oxygen (O), nitrogen (N), hydrogen (H), as well as other elements, are effective biocides ( antiseptic agents, preservatives, bactericides, slimicides, fungicides).
The biggest application is in paint industry especially marine antifouling agent. They are also used in adhesives, cutting oils, water systems, cosmetics, household goods and wound protectant for pruning cuts. They are also used as pulp and wood impregnating agents as well as in leather, fur and polymer process.
Alkyl isothiazolin-3-ones. Organo-sulfur group. Good, wide-spectrum bactericide and algaecide that is effective over a wide range of pH. Isothiazolines kill by inhibiting microbial respiration and food transport through the cell wall.
It is recognized as an industry standard product for cooling systems but can be expensive. Isothiazolines are supplied to some markets as a 13.9% active concentrated blend (10.1% 5-chloro-2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one and 3.8% 2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one).
It is always marketed to the end user, as a 1.5% active (1.11% + 0.39% to 1.15% + 0.35%) in-use blend. Isothiazolines are amber to yellow-green liquids that require very careful handling due to severe skin and eye irritant properties.
They are effective against both general aerobic and spore-forming bacteria, over a pH range of 6.5 to 9.0. Isothiazolines are very effective algaecides and fungicides, but only at acid to slightly alkaline pH levels. Contact time is typically 5 to 6 hours. Dose rate is typically 50 to 120 mg/L, for 1.5% active isothiazoline.
Availability exists as several possible permutations of the product, under the KATHON?brand from Rohm & Haas Company. Also, AMA?/sup>-215 (1.5%) from Vinings Industries, and as 33% aqueous dispersion of 1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-one (BIT) , under the Proxel?BD brand, from ICI PLC. BIT is also available as XBINX from PMC Specialties Group, Inc. ( U.S. ).
